

Yu Zheng is a filmmaker based in Toronto. His work focuses on essay film and fiction, with experience delivering clear and engaging narratives across different formats. In 2017, his first short film, Limbo, made at NSCAD University, screened at Festival du Nouveau Cinéma and Atlantic International Film Festival.
In 2023, his film project with collaborator Yin Kai received a Research and Creation grant from the Canada Council for the Arts, and they recently completed the short film Anthology. In 2026, their screenwriting project received further support from the Canada Council for the Arts, with field research planned for Canada’s West Coast this summer.
Yu graduated from York University in 2026 with an MFA in Film. During his time there, he completed the essay film trilogy AMA and the narrative short film A Friend.
